A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Pine Grove on Monday afternoon left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital, according to the Amador Fire Protection District.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:22 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 88 and Toyon Road, involving four vehicles, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.

The sequence began when a Nissan and a Honda were stopped in an eastbound traffic control area on Highway 88. A Buick, traveling westbound at around 15 mph, passed by the stopped vehicles when a Toyota traveling eastbound veered into the westbound lanes. The Toyota struck the front of the Buick, then collided with the rear of the Nissan, pushing it forward into the rear of the Honda. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn onto its roof, ejecting the driver.

The driver of the Toyota, a 70-year-old woman from Volcano, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Two people in the Nissan sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver and passenger in the Buick suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, officials said.

Driver Dies After Street Sweeper Hits Big Rig on Manteca Off-Ramp

Tragedy struck Monday morning in Manteca when a street sweeper collided with a parked big rig, leading to the death of one person, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident happened around 8:27 a.m. on the southbound off-ramp from Highway 99 to Lathrop Road. The big rig had a passenger onboard who fortunately was not injured. At this time, the CHP does not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
